Global Perspectives, a PioneerWest Project

It was just a few decades ago that the first images of our beautiful blue planet, Earth, our home, were sent back from satellites. Seen from the black vastness of space, Earth appeared to be a small and fragile globe requiring the attention and care of every inhabitant.

We have learned that the necessity for all of us to learn to live together here is imperative. To quote the Eagles song, "There is no more new frontier - we have got to make it here."
But living together means understanding each other, and that takes information.

Now, not many years later, with the robust combination of print media, TV, radio, the Internet and instant worldwide communications, we all have come to realize that the rest of the world is much closer to us. We are now aware of events that happen anywhere in the world and realize that these events can have an impact on us. By reading, digesting, assimilating and interpreting the easily available information, we all can gain a broader, richer, more extensive, perspective on the happenings, events, issues, trends, people, and places that make up our world - a Global Perspective.

For ourselves, the makers of this website, as we have traveled the world, searching for People Friendly Cities, we have encountered many opportunities, through conversations, local news media, books, signboards, events, and observations to expand our perspective and broaden our world view.

With all that we have seen and experienced in our journeys, we have acquired a large pile of 'puzzle pieces' that we will attempt to fit together to create a Big Picture, a Global Perspective.

So, we have decided to post stories and information, images and data, observations and occasional conclusions. We hope to pose questions that need answers, and possibly raise controversies that need dialogue.
